The data processing in the context of our social media profiles is performed on the basis of our legitimate interest in public relations and communication in accordance with Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

We provide our pages on Facebook and Instagram in joint controllership with Facebook Ltd. pursuant to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For the corresponding data protection notice please refer to: https://www.gdv.de/gdv/datenschutzhinweise-fuer-facebook-und-instagram-85844

1. Data processing performed by us

If you publish data related to our social media profiles on the respective service (e. g. comments, public news / posts, videos, images, likes), that data will be published by the respective service provider. We do not process that data for other purposes. We may share through our profile the contents you published on the respective services (e. g. through “retweets”), insofar as the social media service offers such a sharing function.

We reserve the right to delete contents on our profile insofar the deletion is possible, and we deem it necessary. The deletion of contents you published is conducted in accordance with the customary procedures and policies of the respective social media service.

Where applicable we may communicate through the social media service with you in order to respond to your requests. Moreover, we use the data of the social media services to measure and improve the reach of our association’s communication. As far as the deletion of data or the restriction of the data processing is possible, we either delete the data collected in this context once their storage ceases to be necessary or we restrict the processing in case the data retention is legally required. The communication through social media services is potentially not safe. You can always contact us through the other channels described in these data protection notices.

We do not use any advanced advertising options in relation to our social media profiles (e. g. interests-, behaviour- or location-based advertising). We only use aggregated, anonymized usage statistics, which the social media services provide by default.

If we process your data to protect legitimate interests, you may object to such processing for reasons relating to your particular situation. We will then no longer process your personal data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.

You can request information about the data stored by us at any time. Please contact the data protection officer at GDV by e-mail (datenschutz@gdv.de) or by post to the controller’s above address.

You may also request that your data be corrected or deleted under certain circumstances. As soon as you assert a claim for deletion or if the data are no longer necessary to fulfil the purpose for which they were stored or if the storage thereof is inadmissible for other legal reasons, we will delete the personal data you have stored. You may also have the right to restrict the processing of your data and to have the data you provide disclosed in a structured, common and machine-readable format.

You have the option to contact the aforementioned data protection officer or a data protection supervisory authority with a complaint. The data protection supervisory authority responsible for us is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Friedrichstraße 219, 10969 Berlin.

2. Data Processing performed by the social media services

We have no influence on the data collected about you by the social media services and the data processing the conduct, nor are we aware of the full extent of the data collection, the purposes of the processing or the storage periods. In particular, from experience, the service providers store your data as use profiles and process them for the purposes of advertising, market research and demand-oriented design of their services.

Insofar it is possible for us, for example through choosing settings and configurations, we work towards a data protection compliant and sparingly handling of your personal data by the respective social media providers. However, we only have extremely limited influence on the data processing by the service providers.

For further information on the data processing by the social media services please refer to their data protection notices:
