The German Insurance Association (GDV) is the umbrella organisation of insurers in Germany. We represent the interests of an exciting, efficient and diverse industry vis-à-vis parliament, government and the public – at national, EU and international levels.
For our EU and International Department, we are looking for an ambitious and engaging Senior Policy Adviser EU Communications in Brussels, Belgium. As part of the EU and International Affairs team of GDV, Senior Policy Adviser Communications will be an essential part of our team representing the interests of our members towards EU and international institutions, supervisors and other stakeholders. In close cooperation with the team in Brussels and the Competence Centre for Communications in Berlin, the Senior Policy Adviser EU Communications will contribute to GDV’s strategic communications and public affairs engagement at national, EU and international level
Senior Policy Adviser EU Communications will join an ambitious and young team in Brussels. The role reports to the Head of EU and International Affairs.

Your task profile
- As part of the EU and International Affairs Team of GDV, the Policy Adviser EU Communications contributes to the organisation’s communication strategy and supports the advocacy and public affairs plan of GDV through communications activities and supports the team to ensure the delivery of effective communications to GDV members and stakeholders. This includes member newsletters, publications, social media and the website.
- The Policy Adviser EU Communications is responsible for coordinating closely with the EU and International Affairs team and the Communications team to identify opportunities for driving GDV’s EU Affairs and communication strategies.
- Contributing to the management and implementing of GDV’s Communication Strategy at EU level.
- Identifying opportunities for GDV at EU level to support GDV’s communication objectives and its advocacy and public affairs agenda at EU level.
- Collaborating closely with the EU and International Affairs team to support effective and efficient engagement and create positive externalities between public affairs and communications.
- Working closely with GDV’s Communications Department to drive the organisation’s communications strategy from an EU perspective.
- Developing formats and communication means to engage and educate GDV members effectively such as formats and communication means to engage and educate stakeholders and multiply GDV’s messaging on EU topics relevant to the German insurance industry and
- Supporting the creation of and review of newsletters, webpage articles, social media and other publications.
- Undertaking all duties in line with GDV’s policies and procedures and all its legal obligations and other duties as may reasonably be required by GDV.
Your skillset
- Minimum 3 years of experience in communications, with a strong focus on content creation and storytelling.
- University-level education or equivalent practical experience, preferably in an area related to communications.
- Strong interest in political and regulatory developments and a desire to learn about the insurance industry.
- Interest in communications and placing the insurance industry in the public debate.
- Able to work independently and in a team.
- Well-developed administrative, organisational, time management & planning skills that deliver quality work in line with tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated strategic shareholder and stakeholder communications.
- Excellent capacity to develop, run and maintain various channels of communication, including PR and social media.
- Able to create and support productive working relationships working collaboratively both internally and externally.
- Personal drive and integrity and ability to demonstrate initiative when managing issues and projects
- Experience in working with EU or domestic institutions or the financial services sector and in working in communications, PR or Media.
